U.S. Income Documents

Parents' 2023 federal tax return — signed form 1040 plus schedules. Do not include state income tax return.
Submit Schedule 1 if there is an amount on 1040 Line 8 and/or 10
- If there is a zero on line 8 and/or 10 but you don’t have a Schedule 1 in your tax return, upload a statement from your parents to your applicant financial aid applicant portal using the “other” document type confirming they don’t have a Schedule 1 for 2023.
All federal W-2 statements (we do not accept state summaries)
If the parent had a business in 2023 submit the following as applicable:
- Schedule C
- 1065 & Schedule K-1
  - If parents’ ownership is less than 5%, submit only the K-1
- 1120S & Schedule K-1
- 1120
If your parents have foreign income, you must also submit the foreign tax return and/or income statement. Include a copy translated to English. Do not convert tax figures to U.S. Dollars.

If your parent is not required to file a tax return submit:

A Non-filer Statement must be submitted in lieu of tax information.
- Sources of income (e.g., interest, employment income, real estate income) should be listed on this form.

It is Princeton’s policy to require information from both parents in order to determine eligibility for financial aid.

Non-custodial parents may submit their documents via the secure Financial Aid Document Upload site.

The Non-custodial parent completes the Non-custodial Parent Statement (U.S. Domestic).
- If your non-custodial parent does not reside in the U.S. they should complete the applicable form available in the 2025-26 Form Library.

If there are extenuating circumstances preventing you from providing your non-custodial parent’s information, the non-custodial parent may be waived at the discretion of the Financial Aid Office.

Applicants may receive consideration for a waiver by submitting the Non-custodial Parent Waiver Request Form and supporting documents.
- A parent’s unwillingness to pay or contribute to educational expenses is not grounds for a waiver. In addition, divorce decrees and custodial arrangements are not considered in the waiver review process.
- The submission of a waiver request does not guarantee approval.

Canadian Income Documents

First eight pages of the T1 General for 2023. Do not convert tax figures to U.S. Dollars.
If your parents have income outside of Canada not reflected on their tax return, you must also submit the foreign tax return and/or income statement. Include a copy translated to English. Do not convert tax figures to U.S. Dollars.
If your parent owns or has share in a business or farm, please submit the applicable business or farm tax return.

If your parent is not required to file a tax return submit:

A non-filer statement must be submitted in lieu of tax information.

International Income Documents

The original return that covers the majority of the 2023 calendar year
A certified and translated copy of the return (if not in English) that covers the majority of the 2023 calendar year
Tax documents must reflect gross earnings. If the taxes do not show gross amount earned, you will need to submit translated wage statements (if not in English) showing the total income (pre-tax).
If your parent owns or has share in a business or farm, please submit the applicable business or farm tax return.
If your parents have income in more than one country, submit the tax return and/or income statements for each coutnry. Include a copy translated to English.
Do not convert earnings to U.S. Dollar.
